Whangapoua Beach faces NNE. The surf varies from vigorous to lake calm, and is usually good for body surfing and boogie boarding. At one end is a lagoon, popular with young families for still-water swimming and bucket-and-spade fun.
Whangapoua Harbour is a short walk from the house. The harbour has a boat ramp, and is good for kayaking. Launch your boat at Whangapoua Harbour for a day of fishing at the Mercury Islands.
The walk to Opera Point offers stunning views after a delightful bush walk. A walk to secluded neighbouring "New Chums Beach" is a must, and a great place for a picnic.
Visit the old giant kauri trees on the 309 Road (30 minute drive). Climb the giant Castle Rock by walking through native bush and scrambling up the hillside to see spectacular views of the Coromandel Peninsula. Golf courses are available at Matarangi (15 minutes), Coromandel and Whitianga.
Cafés, supermarkets, and specialty shopping are available at Coromandel (20 minutes drive) and Whitianga (30 minutes drive).
